From China to Europe – fast and cheap by train
Around half as expensive as air freight and twice as fast as sea freight – transport by rail has, in recent years, due to the ongoing expansion of the train route from China to Europe, become an interesting alternative. If, in addition, the supplier is based in the Chinese hinterland, the goods will not first travel for two weeks in the “wrong” direction, i.e. east to the port, but can be transported by train directly west to Europe.
Rail transport over roughly 11,000 kilometers from China to Germany, either takes the northern route through Russia or the southern route through Mongolia and Kazakhstan. The journey from the various departure points in China to the final destination in Duisburg at Germany’s largest rail terminal takes between 15 and 20 days. It is possible to “hop on” and “hop off” at various stations along the route.
The goods are transported in 20-foot and 40-foot standard containers. Departures for full containers are daily. We consolidate partial loads with our partners at the rail terminal and dispatch them once a week. After arriving in Europe, the journey to the destination continues by truck.
