Würth Logistics - Rail Transport

The alternative transport route - from China to Europe

At around half the price of air freight and twice as fast as sea freight – rail transport has become an interesting option in the last few years due to the ever advancing expansion of the rail link from China to Europe. For suppliers based in the Chinese interior, consignments do not then first spend 2 weeks traveling in the «wrong» direction, i.e. east to the port, but rather start their journey heading west toward Europe right away by rail. Rail shipment is also a more environmentally friendly means of transport thanks to moderate CO2 emissions.

We coordinate several hundred thousand tons of rail-based freight volume via the new Silk Road from China to Europe every year. The almost 7,000-mile journey from China to Germany follows either the northern route through Russia or the southern route through Mongolia and Kazakhstan. The total travel time from the various points of departure in China to the final destination in Duisburg, which is home to Germany’s largest rail terminal, is between 15 and 20 days. Goods can be loaded and unloaded at various stations along the route.

They are transported in 20-foot and 40-foot «sea freight» containers. Full containers depart the locations every day. We consolidate part loads with our partners at the rail terminal in 12 different locations in China and then dispatch them once a week. This enables us to make optimum use of the freight space available, while also saving costs. Following their arrival in Europe, goods are then transported to their ultimate destination by truck. As is the case with all services provided by Würth Logistics, you benefit from having just one contact throughout the entire shipping route, while all consignment data and documents can be called up at any time via the Transport Management Platform.

Environmentally friendly shipping

Use the rail-based transport option for your consignments from China to Europe as an environmentally-friendly alternative to sea and air freight. We help you reduce the carbon footprint of your goods, so that your consignments arrive sustainably at their destination.
